("Krios," "we," "us," or "our") operates the Calvera calf-management platform, including the website at calvera.ca, the Calvera mobile application, and all related services (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the Service.

1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
- Account Information: Name, email address, password, farm name, and role when you register or are invited to a farm account.
- Farm & Animal Data: Calf records, health events, treatment histories, pen assignments, weights, breeding records, protocols, and any notes you enter into the Service.
- Communications: Messages you send through our contact form, support requests, or newsletter sign-ups.
- Payment Information: If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment details are processed by our third-party payment processor. We do not store credit card numbers on our servers.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Device & Usage Data: IP address, browser type, operating system, device identifiers, pages visited, features used, and timestamps.
- Crash & Performance Data: Error logs, stack traces, and performance metrics collected via Sentry to diagnose and fix issues.
- Push Notification Tokens: Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) tokens used to deliver push notifications on mobile devices. These tokens do not contain personal information.
1.3 Information from Third Parties
If a farm administrator invites you to their farm account, we receive your email address from that administrator.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Provide and Operate the Service: Manage your account, display your farm data, process health events, and deliver notifications.
- Improve the Service: Analyze usage patterns (in aggregate) to improve features, fix bugs, and develop new functionality.
- Communicate with You: Send transactional emails (password resets, account invitations), respond to support inquiries, and deliver newsletters you have opted into.
- Security & Fraud Prevention: Detect, investigate, and prevent unauthorized access or misuse of the Service.
- Legal Compliance: Comply with applicable laws, regulations, or legal processes.
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share information only in the following circumstances:
- Within Your Farm: Other users on the same farm account can see farm data (calves, health events, tasks) as intended by the multi-user design.
- Veterinary Consultants: If your farm administrator grants access to a veterinarian through the Service, that veterinarian can view farm data as permitted by the administrator.
- Service Providers: We use trusted third-party providers to operate the Service, including:
- Microsoft Azure / SQL Server for data hosting
- Sentry for error monitoring
- Firebase Cloud Messaging for push notifications
- Twilio SendGrid for transactional email
These providers process data on our behalf and are contractually obligated to protect it.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, court order, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Krios, our users, or the public.
- Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, user data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify affected users before their data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
4. Data Retention
We retain your account and farm data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you or your farm administrator request deletion, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate business purposes (e.g., audit logs).
Aggregated, anonymized data that cannot identify individuals may be retained indefinitely for analytics and product improvement.
5. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including:
- Encryption in transit (TLS/HTTPS) and at rest
- Secure password hashing (ASP.NET Identity)
- Role-based access control with tenant isolation
- JWT-based authentication for mobile API access
- Regular security reviews and monitoring
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Delete your personal data (subject to legal retention requirements).
- Export your data in a portable format.
- Withdraw Consent for optional processing (e.g., marketing emails) at any time.
- Opt Out of push notifications via your device settings.

The Calvera web application uses essential cookies for authentication and session management. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or cross-site tracking. The mobile application does not use cookies; authentication is handled via secure token storage on your device.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last Updated" date at the top. For material changes, we will notify users via email or an in-app notice. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
